ABU DHABI: Abu Dhabi Ports and Abu Dhabi Ship Building (ADSB) have signed a long-term contract for the construction of a fully-operational ship repair facility with a floating dock capability within Zayed Port.
Phase 1 of the project will see the development of a dedicated set of berths along a 430 metre quay wall and more than 12,000 sqm of yard facilities. “The operational expansion of ADSB through the new floating dry dock in Zayed Port reflects the positive growth seen in the UAE ship building and repair sector,” said ADSB CEO Dr. Khaled Al Mazrouei.
“The new 12,000sqm area includes ship workshops as well as the floating dry dock that will transform the ADSB services to a new era of growth as it aspires to expand its commercial services,” he added. Dr. Al Mazrouei was joined by Abu Dhabi Ports CEO Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi, as well as senior delegations from both parties, at an official signing ceremony at Abu Dhabi Ports Head Office at Zayed Port.
Captain Al Shamisi said, “Our agreement with Abu Dhabi Ship Building to establish a ship repair facility and floating dock capability will play a key role in boosting the trade and maritime industry in Abu Dhabi and enhance the contribution of the sector to the UAE’s GDP.”
