FAISALABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Sargodha, has seized foreign origin auto parts (caterpillar attachment bucket). The estimated value of the smuggled items is Rs 300,000 involving duty and tax worth Rs 76,580.
Sources told Customs Today that the ASO received information through Collector Dr Zulfiqar Ali Chaudhry that smuggled caterpillar is being brought into the country without paying custom duty and taxes.
Following the information, the ASO team comprising Superintendent Choudhary Muhammad Sardar, Inspector Amir Ali, Bashir Ali, Ansar Saleemi, sepoys Muhammad Iqbal, Muhammad Mansha, Muhammad Amin, Muhammad Imran, and Muhammad Ashraf started checking of vehicles near Kattha Road Khushab. During checking the ASO team intercepted a vehicle bearing registration no. JY-3326 near Kattha Road Khushab loaded with Caterpillar bucket.
The ASO team asked the accused person Muhammad Saleem son of Bashir Ahmed to provide documents regarding possession and transporting of above said items.
But the driver only provides the bilties for 4 tyres and one Caterpillar GDs. When the GD re checked with the loaded tyres they are found duplicate, and the GD provided by the driver relating to old and used auto parts found not match.
After examining the documents, the ASO team seized the items under section 168 of the Customs Act 1969 for violation of section 2(s), 16, 18 of rhe customs act 1969.
The ASO team arrested the accused driver and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication department.
