According to Gujranwala Division Director Social Security Abdul Waheed Dar, there are 7,800 registered factories in neighbouring Gujranwala and Hafizabad districts, where thousands of workers are registered and working.

He added that out of these registered factories, 367 industrialists, stated to be influential politically, had not yet cleared their outstanding dues, due to which they have become the chronic defaulters for not paying the social security tax of their workers for the last several years.

Dar said that these influential industrialists including woollen mills, rice mills, ceramics factories and steel mills owners were still reluctant to deposit their arrears despite the repeated issuance of recovery notices to them by the department.
