ISLAMABAD: Customs Collectorate Islamabad has impounded a non-duty paid Prado worth Rs 2 million.
Deputy Collector Preventive Shahid Jan told Customs Today that the anti-smuggling car cell received information through Collector Dr Arslan that a non-duty paid vehicle is coming from Quetta and will enter the jurisdiction of customs when shift of the check posts will change.
The squad was fully alert at entry point of Islamabad Motorway. The customs team intercepted a Prado vehicle model 2003, the vehicle registration number was JAB-858, after interception the squad ask the driver to produce legal documents regarding possession of the vehicle but the driver failed to show any relevant documents.
The duty officer of car cell seized the vehicle and arrest the driver, the vehicle is impound under Customs Act 1969. Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that the registration book which were provide to car cell it was mention that color of vehicle as green but the color of vehicle was blue.
The Deputy collector said that FBR has issued special instructions to all customs departments including Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Customs Airport Staff, Field Investigation Units and all checking teams to take quick and appropriate steps to arrest smugglers to curb the transfer of smuggled goods along with those who are using the smuggled and non-duty paid vehicles, under the Customs Act 1969.
The ASO staff taken part in this operation includes Superintendent Zargham Dil, Superintendent Nasir Barlas, Deputy Superintendent Rana Shakeel and other staff. FIR has been registered against the evaders and further investigations are under process the deputy collector said.
