ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has seized 51 tonnes smuggled Iranian origin tiles worth $10,000 during an action.
According to the details, the anti-smuggling squad was on its routine patrolling on Rawalpindi-Peshawar GT Road when the squad stopped a trailer which was coming from Quetta and was going to Peshawar.
The team recovered a huge quantity of tiles and asked the drivers to provide the relevant documents of loaded goods, but he could not provide the relevant documents to the customs staff. Therefore, the officials confiscated the goods.
Deputy Collector Shahid Jan said that the ASO has started tight checking on road to curb smuggling of foreign goods following the instructions of Collector Dr Arslan Subuctageen.
He said that anti-smuggling activity will be continued with more effective efforts according to directions provided by the FBR Chairman Nisar Muhammad Khan.
He said that smuggled Iranian made tiles have been seized under the Customs Act, 1969. FIR has been lodged against the accused person and further investigation is underway. This successful seizure was made by Superintend Nasir Barlas, Deputy Superintend Rana Shakeel and other staff of ASO.
