Customs intelligence seizes huge quantity of cumin from Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD: Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation has seized a huge quantity of cumin during an operation near IJP Road.

Sources told Customs Today that during a routine checking, the intelligence team intercepted a truck bearing registration No. KTN-407 and recovered 335 sacks of cumin. The net weight of seized cumin is 1,000 kilograms. Sources said that when the FBR team asked the driver who was identified as Mohammad Shafiq to produce legal documents regarding possession and transportation of cumin, he failed to show any relevant documents.

Upon his failure FBR Intelligence team seized the cumin under Customs Act 1969. Sources said that after seizure, real owner of seized cumin approached FBR authorities and said that he is ready to pay all taxes and duties applied on cumin. He also admitted that he did not have any documents showing legal import of cumin.

FBR team seized the entire cumin and forwarded the case to Customs Adjudication for further proceedings. It is necessary to mention here that CIF value of seized cumin is Rs19,95,000.
