1,070 lawmakers file tax returns, 100 yet to submit

ISLAMABAD: Around 100 parliamentarians have yet to file their tax returns for the previous tax year.

However, 1,070 out of 1,170 lawmakers belonging to the National Assembly, Senate and four provincial assemblies have filed their tax returns.

According to FBR spokesman Dr Iqbal, the revenue authority is going to publish Tax Directory after the formal approval of cabinet.

Federal Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, two-day back in a press conference, announced that the federal cabinet had decided to publish tax directory of the parliamentarians and general taxpayers for tax year 2015 in next 15 days.

The finance minister said that Pakistan was the fourth country in the world which was issuing tax directory of the parliamentarians and other taxpayers and was publishing for the last two years.

Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar had announced publishing the tax directory of parliamentarians and general taxpayers at the end of February every year. However, the government could not do so. The government had issued the tax directory for 2014 on April10, 2015.

According to Tax Directory 2014, as many as 1,040 lawmakers filed their tax returns. The parliamentarians’ tax directory has tax details of all members of the Senate, National Assembly and provincial assemblies.

The annual tax directory shows exact details all the citizens who file their tax returns with the FBR every year. The directory contains names, national tax numbers (NTM) along with the amounts paid by each taxpayer to the exchequer.
