SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala, and local police have confiscated Iran and China origin cloth during an action near general bus stand.
Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Zainab Mehmood directed Superintendent Rauf Farooqi to take stern actions against the smuggled goods and vehicles under the anti-smuggling campaign launched by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Following instructions, Customs Intelligence Superintendent Rauf Farooqi held a meeting with officials concerned of local police, seeking assistance to curb smuggling.
However, the superintendent and a team of police officials started checking of vehicles when they intercepted a bus which was coming from Peshawar. The officials recovered cloth from passengers and asked them to show documents regarding legal import of the items but they could not produce the same.
Therefore, the officials confiscated the items under the customs laws and shifted to the compound of Customs Intelligence and Investigation. The team also registered cases under the Customs Act, 1969 against the accused persons.
Superintendent Rauf Farooqi told Customs Today that the Gujranwala general bus stand fell in the jurisdiction of Model Town Police Station and his department asked the police for cooperation to conduct joint operation against smugglers. He added that the local police are ready to cooperate with the Customs Department to curb the smuggling in the region.
