KARACHI: The Quetta Customs recovered a huge quantity of non-duty paid tyres and electronics items in separate actions.
Sources told Customs Today that Deputy Collector Customs Jahanzaib Abbasi received information about some smuggling attempts and formed a team comprising Inspector Imran Shaikh, Inspector Ishtiaq Kakar, Inspector Nasir Hameed and others. The team established checking points at the main entry and exit points of the city and started checking of vehicles.
The customs team intercepted a truck and recovered 200 smuggled tyres. The customs team asked the driver of the truck to provide legal documents regarding possession and transportation of the tyres but he failed to show any relevant documents. After his failure, the customs team seized the tyres and arrested four suspects. The Customs team after registering a case of smuggling started investigations. The market value of the seized tyres is Rs1.6 million.
During another action, the customs team seized electronics goods. Sources told Customs Today that a customs team formed by Collector Jahanzaib Abbasi intercepted a truck and recovered 150 LEDs. The driver of the vehicle had failed to show any legal documents. Customs team arrested the driver and his companion and after registering a case started investigations.
