9 arrested for drugs smuggling worth RM3m in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Three women were among nine suspects arrested on suspicion of being involved with a syndicate trafficking drugs worth RM3 million in five separate raids in Selangor from Friday until yesterday. The five raids were in Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), Sepang, Kota Damansara, Seri Kembangan and Puchong.

Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department principal assistant director SAC Kang Chez Chiang said the nine suspects were aged between 26 to 37 years.

He said the police conducted two raids in KLIA, Sepang and Kota Damansara on Friday and arrested three local women and a Nigerian man.

“The four were arrested on suspicion of smuggling cocaine using drug mules and courier services in KLIA,” he told a media conference in Bukit Aman today. Kang said they also seized 226 pieces of cocaine weighing 4.3 kilograms worth about RM1 million in a cylindrical plastic bottle hidden in two backpacks in KLIA.

Police also seized one Peugeot 308 vehicle and cash amounting to USD100 and RM2,750, he said. He said as a follow up to the first case, police on Monday conducted three raids in Seri Kembangan and Puchong and arrested four Nigerian men.

“As a result of the operation, police seized drugs believed to be syabu weighing 22.5 kilograms with an estimated value of RM1.6 million and cash amounting to RM328,000,” he said.

Meanwhile yesterday police arrested a local man at the KLIA Bus Terminal and seized two packets believed to be cocaine weighing 1.5 kilogram and estimated to be valued at RM375,000. He said the total value of the drugs seized were RM3 million and the suspects are investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
