Customs car cell impounds non-duty paid BMW from Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Customs Collectorate Islamabad has impounded a BMW worth Rs 5 million from the capital territory.

Collector Dr Arslan told Customs Today that the anti-smuggling car cell received information that a tempered vehicle white BMW is roaming in (Islamabad) at E-11 Markaz.

In pursuance of the information the car cell reached E-11 and found the vehicle and stopped it. The registration number of the vehicle was U-2666. The squad asked the owner to produce legal documents regarding possession of the tempered vehicle but the owner failed to produce any genuine and relevant documents. The fake documents showed that the car was registered in 1992 but its actual model was 2006.

The duty officer of the car cell Superintend Chaudhary Safdar seized the vehicle under Customs Act 1969 and arrested the owner.

Collector Arslan Subuctageen said that the documents of vehicle have been sent to further examination.

The collector said that FBR has issued special instructions to all customs departments including Customs Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO), Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Customs Airport Staff, Field Investigation Units (FIU) and all checking teams to take quick and appropriate steps to arrest smugglers to curb the transfer of smuggled goods along with those who are using the smuggled and non-duty paid vehicles.

The collector said that FIR has been registered against the evaders against having tempered chassis number vehicle and fake documents, further investigations are under process the collector said.
