Special customs courts to be set up in all divisions of Punjab

SIALKOT: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah has announced to set up special courts of customs, anti-smuggling and anti-narcotics in all the divisions of Punjab.

He was presiding over a special meeting of judges and lawyers in which it was decided to set up special courts of customs, anti-smuggling, narcotics and accountability on division levels. Sources told Customs Today that the chief justice has already sent a letter to the secretary of law and justice for approval.

Sources said that majority of people who belong to far flung areas are facing huge difficulties to file their cases in customs court. While on the other hand traders and members of chamber of commerce and industries and other related associations were demanding to set up customs court at divisional level.

Sources said that now federal government will acquire land with the consultation of Chief Justice to construct customs court at divisional level. Sources said that federal government land will provide land for this purpose in Gujranwala near Lohianwala Bye Pass.
