Gwadar Customs seizes smuggled Iranian diesel, batteries in two operations

KARACHI: The Customs Gwadar authorities recovered a huge quantity of smuggled Iranian diesel while during another crackdown the customs staff recovered non-duty paid batteries of cameras and arrested eight persons.

Sources told Customs Today that Collector Saeed Akram received information that a huge quantity of smuggled Iranian diesel is being transported outside Gwadar city. He immediately summoned deputy collector who formed a team comprising Inspector Shah Rukan-e-Alam, Inspector Tariq Khan, Inspector Sarfraz Ali and others. The team established check points on main entry and exit points of the city and started checking of vehicles.

The customs team intercepted an oil tanker bearing registration no. LBA-654 and recovered 18,000 liters of Iranian diesel. The customs team asked the driver of the vehicle to show legal documents regarding import and transportation of diesel but he failed to show any relevant, after which customs team seized the diesel .

During another action, the customs authorities recovered 3,000 batteries of cameras which were tactfully hidden in secret parts of a vehicle. Three people who were board on the vehicle failed to show any legal documents. Customs teams arrested all the persons and after registering a case against them started investigations.
