11,017 new villages provided electricity

ISLAMABAD: As many as 11,017 new villages were electrified in various parts of the country since inception of the PML-N government in 2013.

Official sources told APP here the villages electrified during the said period fell in jurisdictions of all power distribution companies (DISCOs).

Giving the breakup, the official said some 240 villages were electrified by Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO), 82 by Lahore electric Supply Company, 4,052 by Multan Eclectic Power Company (MEPCO), 1,341 by Faisalabad Electric Supply Company (FESCO), 130 by Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) and 568 by Sukkur Electric Supply Company (SEPCO). Similarly, Quetta Electric Supply Company electrified some 2,887 villages, Hyderabad Electric Supply Company 630, Peshawar Electric Supply Company 1,028 and Tribal Electric Supply Company 59. To a question, they said some 93.45 per cent of total population of the country has access to electricity.
