Customs car cells impounds 102 offending vehicles during July-August: Collector Dr Arsalan

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Customs Collectorate impounded 69 offending and 33 non-duty paid vehicles during the first two months of financial year 2016-17.

Collector Dr Arslan told Customs Today that performance of anti-smuggling squad and car cell was satisfactory during the first two months of the current financial year. He said that the car cell impounded 47 offending vehicles in August and 22 vehicles in July 2016.

The collector said that the offending vehicles could not be spared anymore because they were the big cause of smuggling. He said that smugglers and tax evaders used private vehicle for smuggling because anti-smuggling squad is using all resources to foil smuggling attempts.

Collector Dr Arslan Subutgeen said that FBR directed to adopt zero tolerance policy towards tax evaders and owners of non-duty paid vehicles.

The collector said that customs department is using latest technology as lap-tops, connectivity with Excise and Taxation department, and strict vigilance by Customs Preventive division and car cell to discourage trends of tax evasion.
