Govt trying to ensure smooth gas supply to domestic consumers in winter: Khaqan

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Sunday said uninterrupted gas supply was being made to the industry while the government was trying to ensure its smooth supply to the domestic consumers.

The government in that regard was devising a strategy to meet the high demand of gas during winter, he said talking to Pakistan Television.

The minister said the demand of liquefied natural gas (LNG) was increasing day by day. An LNG terminal had already been built while work on two others was in progress, he added. He said unfortunately the past governments did nothing regarding LNG, while the present government considering the future gas needs, had worked on that option also.

Khaqan said the present government had also started work on the 22-year old TAPI gas project. He said the prices of petroleum products in Pakistan were less as compared to other countries. He said when the Pakistan Muslim League-N government inherited many challenges, including terrorism and energy shortage, but it was taking steps to address all the issues.

He said due to the policies being pursued by the present government, surplus gas would be available in the country in the year 2018. New laws had been approved to control gas theft, he added.

He said due to conducive environment created by the government, private sector was increasing exploration activities. He said the present government had taken several measures for complete elimination of corruption from the country. He expressed the hope that the PML-N would again win the elections in 2018 due to its performance and credibility.
