Gilgit-Baltistan Customs collects Rs 392m in August

ISLAMABAD: The Model Customs Collectorate Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) made historic collection of duty/taxes on the import of goods through Sust border during August of new fiscal year 2016-17.

Gilgit-Baltistan Customs Assistant Collector Muhammad Akbar Jan said that tremendous performance was observed during the said period as it collected Rs 392.35 million in shape of duty/taxes.

He said that the department also showed better performance in preceding month July 2016, adding that the collection of first two months of new fiscal year stood at over Rs 500 million, which was collected on the import through Pakistan-China Border.

The GB Customs realized Rs 1785.23 million under the head of duty/taxes during previous fiscal year 2015-16 showing 28.88 percent growth over preceding year 2014-15, the assistant collector said.

A handsome growth was also observed during January to June 2016, he said, informing that the collectoratre seized various smuggled items and liquor worth millions of rupees during May-June 2016.

He said that the collectorate has not been assigned revenue targets so far for financial year 2016-17, adding that the department will strive hard to achieve the targets within time period under the supervision of Collector Ali Raza Khan and Customs North Chief Collector Sarwat Tahira Habib.
