Kuwait’s Environment Public Authority signs deals with customs officials

KUWAIT CITY: The Environment Public Authority (EPA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the General Administration for Customs (KGAC) for cooperation to train customs officials, as part of a strategy on waste disposal.

EPA Director General Sheikh Abdullah Ahmad Al-Humoud Al-Sabah told KUNA that the endeavor centers on efforts to hone the skills of the nation’s youth, as the training program aims to ensure increased efficiency and aptness in efforts to conserve the environment.

Moreover, he underscored that Kuwait is firmly committed to all international environmental protocols ad agreements, naming climate change as an example. He also revealed that EPA has signed a similar agreement with the Public Authority for Industry (PAI) with the goal of ensuring an adept workforce.

Meanwhile, in a statement to KUNA, KGAC Director General Khaled Al-Saif said that a total of 700 customs officials will be trained by EPA on how to deal with material deemed detrimental to ozone levels.

He also noted that the new customs system in the country is an encompassing one that includes thorough checkups on areas nationwide, adding that a spate of new measures will be introduced to keep ozone levels intact while staving off all threats.
