ISLAMABAD : Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Pervez Malik has said that Public Accounts Committee (PAC) cannot investigate Panama papers issue however it can recommend the matter to some investigating department.
Speaking in a private news channel program, Pervez Malik said, there is a laid down procedure for functioning of different institutions and investigation does not fall within the purview of PAC. “It can however recommend the matter to some other institution.”
Answering a question, he said, delay in issuance of notices by FBR in Panama papers offshore companies occurred because the Terms of Reference (ToR) committee could not reach a conclusion in framing ToR. Commenting on the view point of Secretary Law in the PAC meeting that the committee could not investigate the matter, the PML-N MNA said, the Secretary had just explained the provisions of the law. However, the chairman over ruled his argument. But, the matter could further be discussed to bring clarity. He said the government had not pressurized Secretary Law and it had also not insisted on his stance, so there is nothing mala fide on its part.
Answering a question, Pervez Malik said, PML-N leadership has clearly directed its workers not to react to PTI rhetoric. However, the reaction of youth to threatening language used by PTI leaders was natural.
He said why PML-N has no need to resort to violence because it still enjoys masses support that has been manifested in the Sahiwal election where PML-N has won National Assembly seat which was previously won by PTI candidate.
Pervez Malik said street politics has not been started by PML-N but our party will ensure that procession remains peaceful on September 30.
“We provided them protection at their previous rally and will also ensure protection to their utmost satisfaction.”
Commenting on the Kashmir issue, he said, the government has vigorously raised this issue at regional and international forums and the Prime Minister will also drew attention of the world leaders towards this dispute at the UN General Assembly session.
