DUBAI: Dubai Customs carried out 1,771 seizures at Dubai International Airport and at Al Maktoum International Airport in the first half of the year.
Inspectors seized items included narcotics, bladed weapons, guns, counterfeit and banned goods as well as materials deemed to be contrary to public morality or that can be used in sorcery.
Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, director of Dubai Customs, said inspectors were able to accurately identify shipments suspected of containing illegal goods.
The Al Kashif device, a specialised cart equipped with instruments to detect narcotics, has also been used successfully, reported Aletihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National.
