CIU of Port Qasim seeks approval to scrutinize machinery related consignments

KARACHI: The Collectorate Intelligence Unit (CIU) has sought approval of Collector Port Qasim Mukarram Jah Ansari to investigate the cleared consignments, including auto parts and other related items.

Sources informed Customs Today that additional collector, who is heading the CIU of the Port Qasim Collectorate has received reports that the country is incurring a huge loss in machinery consignments at Qasim International Containers Terminal (QICT).

In a letter, the additional collector has sought a detailed scrutiny with the approval of the competent authority through proper assessment and examination of the imported consignments of machinery at QICT, as some reports of tax evasion and mis-declaration have been surfaced.

The Collector Port Qasim Mukarram Jah Ansari has given the permission to authorities of the Collectorate to scrutinize the present and past cleared consignments related to the machinery.

The sources informed this scribe that the additional collector heading CIU would issue a circular in upcoming days for all authorities concerned in which a complete assessment and examination of the machinery consignments would declare “mandatory” in order to check the veracity of the imported consignments.
