ASO impounds vehicles worth Rs 50 million

ISLAMABAD: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) has impounded 30 vehicles under Section 157 of the Customs Act, 1969 and 19 non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 50.306 million until September 26 of the first quarter of financial year 2016-17.

Officials said that the performance of the ASO remained satisfactory during the first quarter, as it made many big seizures of smuggled goods worth of millions of rupees and impounded 30 vehicles, including Hino trucks, Bed Ford trucks, Mazda trucks, pickups and Toyota Corolla cars worth Rs 29.35 million.

During the said period, the officials impounded 19 body changed non-duty paid vehicles under Section 16 of the Customs Act, 1969, they said, adding that body changed vehicles are not allowed for driving without getting NOC from the relevant department. The value of the vehicle has been estimated at Rs 20.956 million.

Islamabad Customs Collector Arslan Subuctageen has hailed the performance of the ASO staff during first quarter of the new fiscal year.
