Punjab govt spending huge amount to alleviate poverty

LAHORE: The Punjab government is spending billions of rupees for poverty alleviation and improvement of social sectors.

The provincial government has taken poverty alleviation as a challenge, a senior official of the provincial government said while talking to APP here on Sunday. He said that fight of Punjab against poverty could be easily compared with any other part of developing world. The government has adopted comprehensive policies for the improvement of education, health, potable drinking water and skill development sectors.

“We are implementing a coordinated programme in our fight against poverty including preparing quality skilled manpower, thousands of youth have been made skilful so far under Skill Development Programme and lakhs of youth of the province are being empowered by imparting vocational training “, he said. He said that revolutionary reforms were being introduced in education, health and various other sectors to alleviate poverty. He said that different world organizations including the World Bank had appreciated programmes and policies of Punjab in this regard.

Infrastructure development has been given priority, common man is enjoying latest transport facilities and several programmes are running successfully for providing best facilities to the people of the province, he added.
