Govt evolves programme to distribute interest-free loans to farmers: CM

LAHORE: Chief Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has said the Punjab government has evolved a programme under which interest-free loans of billions rupees will be distributed among small cultivators.

He was addressing a meeting to review the provision of loans to small cultivators here on Sunday. He said the programme of interest-free loans would benefit the agriculture sector and enable cultivators stood on their own feet. He said agriculture was of paramount importance in national economy and the Punjab government had given top priority to the agriculture sector.

The CM said revolutionary steps had been taken for the uplift of agriculture and prosperity of farmers. He added that programme was a part of historical agri package. He said if cultivator was prosperous, then agri economy would strengthen and the country will make progress. He added the Punjab government had set up an agri commission for setting agri economy on durable basis.

The chief minister directed to constitute a steering committee for moving the programme of interest-free loans forward and said the committee will take immediate steps for implementation of the programme.

Provincial Ministers Dr Farrukh Javed, Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, President Zarai Taraqiati Bank, President Bank of Punjab and other senior officers also attended the meeting.
