$31-m renovation at Customs completed

KINGSTON: The Jamaica Customs Agency (JCA) has renovated and upgraded several sections of its head office at Newport East in Kingston, at a cost of just more than $31 million.

The work included the construction of a Transport and Property Services Unit, refurbishing of the canteen, and paving of the driveway. State minister for Finance and Public Service Rudyard Spencer formally opened the facilities last Friday.

In his remarks, Spencer welcomed the renovations, which he said will enhance the employees’ work environment.

He commended JCA Chief Executive Officer and Commissioner of Customs Major Richard Reese for initiating the work, adding that this will ensure that the staff operates in an environment that caters to their well-being, thus allowing them to perform their jobs more efficiently and effectively.

“You, the team members of Jamaica Customs, are the most valuable asset to the agency. Therefore, your comfort and ensuring that you are adequately equipped to execute your duties is a very important component to any level of success,” the state minister said.

In his remarks, Major Reese said he was pleased to have been able to contribute to the enhancement of the staff’s well-being.
