Land Port Authority to facilitate border trade

ISLAMABAD: The government will establish Pakistan Land Port Authority to invigorate the border trade and better monitor those travelling to Pakistan.

The meeting, held here to review the prospects for setting up Pakistan Land Port Authority, was chaired by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar. Quarter Master General Pakistan Army Lt General Javed Bukhari briefed the minister on border check points across the country.

The minister was briefed about the requirements of modern border terminals required in the current era of growing trade and rising international commercial goods volume.

The construction of sufficiently equipped terminals is a requirement not only for the purpose of trade regulation but also for tracking movement of persons both for the reasons of immigration and security. Various models of upgradation of border posts for covered cargo at Jamrud, Taftan, Sost were discussed.

Dar emphasised the government’s priority of establishing a Land Port Authority to invigorate the border trade and facilitate and better monitor those travelling to Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by SAPM on Law Barrister Zafarullah Khan, Secretary EAD, Maj General Sahir Shamshad, DG MO, Maj General Faisal Mushtaq, DG-NLC and FBR chairman.
