Customs Preventive ASO confiscates smuggled goods worth Rs 5m

KARACHI: The Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) of Customs Preventive, in a recent raid against a smuggling cartel, has confiscated the contraband items worth Rs 5 million.

According to details, the Customs Preventive raided a godown near Mochko area in Baldia Town.

Deputy Collector Preventive Headquarters (ASO) Ali Turrabi Sipra informed Customs Today that the smuggling cartel was trying to smuggle cellular phones and prohibited ‘guktha’ from other part of the country to Karachi.

“The ASO team was headed by Assistant Collector Muhammad Ali Raza which was raided at a gowdown near Mochko in Baldia Town”, deputy collector added.

The Deputy Collector Ali Raza Turabi further informed that the ASO team confiscated around 500 latest technology cellular phones and around 20-cartons of Indian made ‘gutkha’ worth Rs5million.

The Deputy Collector Preventive further said that the Customs authorities has registered a case according to Customs Act, 1969 and also decided to take action against the godown owner.

Replying to a query, the Deputy Collector Preventive Ali Raza Turabi said that the Chief Collector-Enforcement South has clear strategy against the smuggling activities across the different borders of South Region adding that the Customs authorities are stick with their plans to curb the smuggling activities throughout the South Region.

The Deputy Collector-Preventive further said that the Customs authorities would also take action across the South Region in order to uproot the smuggling activities.
