PAC sub-committee directs housing ministry to streamline system

ISLAMABAD: Sub-Committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Tuesday directed Ministry of Housing and Works to streamline the system and devise a mechanism for collection of rents and maintaining records.

The meeting was held here at Parliament House with Convener of Sub-Committee Sardar Ashiq Hussain Gopang in the chair.

Member of the committee Dr Azra Pechuho also attended the meeting. The committee expressed displeasure over the poor rents collection and record maintenance system of ministry of housing, especially State Office.

The committee directed the ministry to present detailed report of its properties before the committee within three months. The committee also asked the ministry to define how rents are collected from the employees residing in government houses.The committee further said that ministry of housing should maintain its record and keep updating it on its website to streamline the system. The Sub-Committee of PAC also directed the ministry of housing to initiate disciplinary action against the officials who failed to prepare proper data to ensure accurate financial statements.

The officials of ministry informed the committee that already they wrote to establishment division, requesting departmental action against the officials responsible for the negligence. Secretary Ministry of Housing and Works Arbab Shah Rukh said that the ministry computerized the overall system for maintaining the records and it would be kept updated.
