NEW YORK: Honda City that had gone its top spot to Maruti Ciazin the mid-sized sedan segment last month, has regained its place in November 2014 sales. As against Maruti Ciaz’s 5,232 parts in the month, Honda sold a total of 7,252 units recording a month-on-month increase of over 40 percent. Last month, Honda could run to sell only 5,120 units due to manufacture issues at its plants. To bring down its mid-sized sedan’s waiting period, Honda started one extra shift at its Tapukara, Rajasthan plant. The Maruti Ciaz, on the other hand, saw a month-on-month fall of over 20 percent in its sales.
Ever since its launch in the Indian market, Honda City had been ruling the mid-sized sedan segment; for the first time it was outnumbered by any of its rival in October 2014. The City, currently, is the top-selling car for Honda in India followed by Mobilio and Amaze. Honda sold a total of 3,589 units of Mobilio and 3,310 units of Amaze in November 2014.
Speaking on the company’s sales performance, Mr. Jnaneswar Sen, Sr. Vice President – Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India Ltd. said, “We continue to witness strong demand for all our products across markets. We are aggressively expanding our dealer network to reach out to more customers and recently we reached the milestone of 200 dealer network in the country.”
Available in two engine options – 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel and 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol, the City is priced in the range of Rs. 7.20 lakh – Rs. 11.10 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Claimed to return an impressive mileage of 25.8K/l, the City is the second most fuel-efficient vehicle in the country after the Ciaz.
