Gujranwala Customs Intelligence foils cloth smuggling bid

SIALKOT: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation, Gujranwala has confiscated smuggled Iranian cloth worth Rs 75,000 from Wazirabad during an action.

As per details, Superintendent Muhammad Rauf Farooqi following credible information formed a team under the supervision of Intelligence Officer Nasarullah to check vehicles on Grand Trunk (GT) road to curb smuggling.

The officer along with his team members, including constables Boota, Riasat, Sajid Raza, Mubashir and others started checking of vehicles on GT Road near Wazirabad meanwhile, the team intercepted a van which was coming from Peshawar and going to Lahore for checking that led to the recovery of Iranian cloth.

The team asked driver Gul Habib to show documents regarding legal import of the cloth and booking documents but the driver could not produce the documents.

Therefore, the team confiscated the cloth and shifted to the warehouse, while released the driver along with van after proper interrogation. The customs has registered a case against manager of van stand and issued notice to the manager. The case has also been sent to the adjudication for further action.

Officials informed that anti-smuggling campaign was in full swing in the region, adding that the Customs Intelligence teams were working round the clock in order to keep a vigilant eye on the smugglers.
