Customs Preventive ASO seizes goods, vehicles worth Rs 30m in 1Q

LAHORE: Customs Preventive Anti-Smuggling Organization (ASO) has seized contraband goods and vehicles worth Rs 30 million during the first quarter of the financial year 2016-17.

The ASO registered eight cases worth Rs 6 million during July while 29 cases of contraband and non-customs paid items and vehicles worth Rs 17 million were registered during August. The ASO registered 21 cases wroth Rs 8 million during September. Overall, the ASO conducted 58 operations worth Rs 30 million during first quarter of the financial year 2016-17.

The ASO seized the goods and vehicles from various places in and around the city including Defence,  Multan Road, Faizpur Interchange and others.

Sources told Customs Today that the vehicles and contraband goods which were seized included Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Hilux and other vehicles.

On the other hand, the ASO seized handle walves, Iranian guargedrs, cigarettes, cloths, steel sheet, auto-parts and other non-customs paid items.

Customs ASO Superintendent Waqar Cheema said that the ASO on the instructions of Collector of Customs Zulfiqar Younas has increased vigilance on the smuggling activities and each and every official of the ASO team has been strictly told to come hard on the smugglers and adopt zero tolerance against them.

He added that the ASO team has planned to check and seized goods and vehicles that are being dumped in the market illegally destroying the legal business in the city.

He said that in this regard special scouts of ASO team will take position on the roads and work immediately on any information.
