LHC suspends FBR’s notice to Tareen

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has suspended a tax notice for the recovery of Rs162 million from Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Jahangir Tareen sugar mill. LHC Also stopped the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for tax collection from sugar mill.

FBR had issued a tax recovery notice to Jahangir Tareen Sugar mill of Rs162 million, Tareen is a prominent businessman and politician.

Tareen’s counsel told the court that the FBR had unlawfully issued a notice for the recovery of Rs162 million as tax. He said the board had no power to recover tax.

Added more that FBR has sent tax notice in the year 2011 and Tareen’s sugar mills already pay their tax liabilities in the same year. He requested the court to set aside the notice.

Justice Shahid Kareem suspended the notice and stopped the concerned commissioner of Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) for tax collection from Jahingir Tareen Sugar mills.
