RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President Raja Amer Iqbal Thursday said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was crucial for the country’s economic stability and prosperity.
Talking to a group of traders here at the RCCI, he said the CPEC project must be kept away from politics and all political groups should adopt a matured approach and desist from making it controversial for the benefit of the people of this region. He said, “the CPEC is a mega development initiative – a game changer for the country and the region.”
The project showed the eternal friendship and strategic partnership between Pakistan and China and would serve as a lifeline for the national economy, he added.
Raja Amer Iqbal said it was unfortunate that some political elements were trying to make it controversial. “The CPEC is a national project and does not belong to any political party, individual or province.”
He said,” Rawalpindi is one of the major cities that falls in the northern part of CPEC project. That is why there exists huge potential to boost trade and business activities in the city.”
Amer urged the government to include Rawalpindi in the CPEC project due to its location as it had the potential for establishing cold storages, goods transportation and warehouses to carry out the project at a faster pace.He said Rawalpindi was a hub of trade involving Kashmir, Gilgit, Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhawa, and had road and rail links with various parts of the country.
Highlighting the prospects for the technical manpower he said as industrial and trade activities would enhance under the project it would pave the way for employment opportunities for the people.
