These figures place Spain in the fourth place as the world’s biggest producer of pork products, only surpassed by China, US and Germany.

Isabel García Tejerina, Spanish Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Environment, praised the country’s performance at the recently held III International Forum for the Pork Sector, organised by Interporc. There, she highlighted Spain’s “clear exporting vocation” and the country’s processing industry, which represents an income of €20,000 million.

The minister also pointed out that Spanish exports in the area are growing at an excellent rate: “In the first seven months of 2016, they’ve reached 1.3 million tonnes, which represents a22% increase compared to the same period in 2015.”
