President urges business community to cooperate for broadening tax base

ISLAMABAD: President of Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain has said that the government needed to increase tax revenue for the better development of the country and uplifting peoples living standards and business community should cooperate with it in its efforts for broadening tax base and improving tax revenue.

He said this while talking to a delegation of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) that called on him led by its President Khalid Iqbal Malik.

He said CPEC was a game changer for Pakistan as it would trigger many developmental projects in the country, create lot of business and employment opportunities and stressed that private sector should ensure maximum participation in its development. He said ICCI proposal for an industrial estate in Islamabad will be given due consideration to promote industrialization and investment in the region. He said he would also recommend ICCI representation in CDA Board as well as in the governing bodies of Islamabad Club and Citizen Club.

Speaking at the occasion, Khalid Iqbal Malik, President, Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry apprised the President of Pakistan of the key issues of business community. He said more than 90 percent issues of trade and industry were related to CDA and ICCI should be given representation in CDA Board that will help in resolving their problems smoothly.

He said ICCI had held many meetings with CDA for establishment of a new industrial estate in I-17 Sector as current industrial areas have reached saturation point. Some progress was also made to this effect, but later on the project was shelved by the CDA. He said this project should be revived to set up new industries in the region. He said business community was making useful contribution to the tax revenue and was ready to cooperate with the government in further broadening tax network. He said ICCI representation in Islamabad Club and Citizens Club was important for the facilitation of its members.

ICCI Senior Vice President Khalid Malik, Vice President Tahir Ayub, Khalid Javed, Tariq Sadiq, Muhammad Akram Farid, Zubair Ahmed Malik, Mian Shaukat Masud, Zafar Bakhtawari, M. Ejaz Abbasi, Zahid Maqbool, Mehfooz Elahi, Atif Ikram Sheikh, Muzzamil Sabri, Khalid Chaudhry, Sheikh Amir Waheed, Shaukat Ali, Ch. Muhammad Naeem, M. Zakria Zia, Ms. Fatima Azeem and Ch. Waheed ud Din were included in the delegation.
