PESHAWAR: Regional Tax Office (RTO) Chief Commissioner Shahid Zaman has proposed to the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to waive general sales tax (GST) on electricity bills for domestic consumers of tribal areas.

The outgoing Peshawar chief commissioner said this during a reception hosted by Regional Office of Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to bid farewell to him and for welcoming new Chief Commissioner Jehanzeb Mehmood.

Former FPCCI president Ghulam Ali, Regional Vice President Riaz Khattak, former vice-president Fazal Elahi, senior officers of the Peshawar RTO and prominent businessmen were also present on the occasion.

Shahid Zaman said a summary had been forwarded to the FBR proposing zero rating of the GST on electricity bills of domestic consumers of Tribal Areas Electricity Supply Company (Tesco). He said that the RTO is working to provide maximum facilities to the citizens.

“Facilitation of taxpayers through resolution of their problems is the culture of the Peshawar RTO. Strict directives have been issued to officers concerned for delivering proper service to people,” he added.

In response to a demand about return of rebate, he said the FBR is working over it and the cheques would be delivered to the businessmen soon.

Earlier, in his address, Fazal Elahi said that the investment is affected due to delay in payment of rebate as the capital of businessmen is stuck up with the government. He said rebate was not being paid to people the last two years, blocking the working capital of business community of the country.

FPCCI Regional Vice President Riaz Khattak also discussed some tax-related issues in Fata and Provincially Administered Tribal Area (Pata). He also appreciated working relations of outgoing Chief Commissioner Shahid Zaman with the business community of the province. He said the FPCCI office would provide all possible cooperation and support to RTO in implementation of government decisions.
