ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has restrained National Accountability Bureau (NAB) from using powers to clear persons through voluntary return and plea bargain deals.
The apex court has stopped the NAB from using powers under which people were cleared from corruption charges against paying amount under plea bargain.
These remarks came at the hearing of a case regarding illegal appointments in the bureau. Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali, during the hearing, remarked that even court had no such powers which the NAB was exercising.
The chief justice said the country had bad image abroad due to such laws. Justice Amir Hani Mulsim said the NAB received 25 percent of the money returned through plea bargain. Prosecutor General NAB, however, denied that the NAB gets 25 percent.
