Punjab govt to stop collecting agri tax from farmers

LAHORE: The Punjab government has decided to stop collecting income tax on agriculture from farmers.

This was stated by Punjab Minister for Agriculture Dr Farrukh Javed, while talking to the delegation of farmers.

The decision was taken on the complaints of farmers regarding complicated procedure of collection of agriculture income tax and directives in this regard have been issued to all the field officers and assistant commissioners of revenue.

The minister said the Punjab government is taking every possible step to provide maximum financial relief to the farmers. He said the government has taken serious steps to provide relief and increase of agriculture production.

Dr Farrukh said that Kisan Package of Rs 100 billion will provide interest-free loan to 5,00,000 farmers which will help diminish the role of middle man. He stated the registration of farmers regarding loans will continue till November 15 but the government will start distribution of loans soon.

The minister directed all the field officers to ensure implementation of notification regarding decision of withholding the agriculture income tax.
