HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation has confiscated smuggled items worth Rs 3.239 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 740,945 during an action in the city.
Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Azam Khan received information regarding a smuggling attempt on which he formed a team under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent Sikandar Hayat Khanzada.

The team comprising Inspector Irfan Ghani, Inspector Ahmed Hussain Junejo, Sepoys Noshad Khan, Azam Ali, Muhammad Imran and others intercepted a vehicle on Super Highway, Hyderabad for checking.
During checking, the officials recovered items, including 27 cartons of gents wallet, 25 cartons of trolley school bags, ladies purse, 980 kilogramme of cloth, 655kg parachute school bags and other items made in UAE. The items were being transported to Karachi from Rawalpindi.
The officials asked driver of the vehicle to show document regarding legal import of the items but he could not produce the same. Therefore, the officials confiscated the items under customs laws after making a seizure report. All items have been deposited to Hyderabad State Warehouse.
The intelligence officials said that vigilance has been enhanced on roads against the movement of smuggling items and vehicles through this region. They added that the department was striving to eliminate the menace of smuggling by taking all possible measures.
