Hyderabad Customs Intelligence seizes 400 bags of polyethylene worth Rs 1.2m

HYDERABAD: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation also seized 400 bags of Iranian origin polyethylene worth Rs 1.22 million during an action.

Officials said that Field Investigation Unit (FIU) of Customs Intelligence on the strict instructions of director has started take action against the smuggling in the region. They further said that crackdown has been launched against the smugglers in the region by adopting latest strategies in this regard.

As per details, Customs Intelligence Deputy Director Azam Khan received credible information regarding the smuggling of Iranian origin items through this region.

He formed a team constituted a team comprising Deputy Superintendent Sikander Hayat Khanzada, Intelligence Officer Irfan Ghani, Ahmed Hussain Joneju, Sepoyes Muhammad Imran Ali, Ghiasuddin Shah, Alimuddin, Hanif Soomro and others to bust smuggling attempt.

The intelligence staff intercepted a vehicle near Hyderabad Highway for checking that led to the recovery of said 400 bags of polyethylene. The driver of the vehicle was asked to show document regarding legal import of the items, but he could not produce the same.

Therefore, the officials confiscated the items considering them smuggled under the customs laws. The bags have been shifted to state warehouse after making a seizure report. The case will be sent to Customs Adjudication for further legal action.
