Additional Collector Beelam declares seizure of non-duty paid goods legal

FAISALABAD:  Customs Adjudication Additional Collector Beelam-ur-Ramzan has issued an Order-in-Original (ONO) against M/s Altaf Goods and other persons.

Sources informed Customs Today that the customs authorities had intercepted a vehicle and recovered a huge quantity of non-duty paid tobacco, cigarettes and different items. These goods were being transported through M/s Altaf Goods Forwarding Agency Faisalabad. Sources said that this consignment was booked from Lahore to Faisalabad, while no documents could be produced by the offender to claim the legality of the seized goods. This had prompted the customs authorities to seize the consignment and subsequently issue a notice to the forwarding agency.

It is necessary to mention here that after the arrival of the said goods in the custody of the customs officials, neither the importer nor his authorised person had approach the authorities for the clearance of their consignment.

The examination team of Customs Faisalabad along with representative of FDPT during examination observed that the condition as well as packing of goods was quite shabby and not up to the mark. It was suspected that high tariff good have been replaced with low tariff good. It is pertinent to mention here that an FIR has been lodged against accused company

Sources said Superintendent Sardar Mohammad Abdul Jabbar, Safdar Ali, Masood Saeed Chohan  appeared in adjudication department and no one appeared to defend the case from respondent’s side  nor any written reply has been received from the respondent.

Therefore Additional Collector Customs Adjudication Beelamur Ramzan ordered the seized goods are smuggled one under clause 14 of Section 156(1) and Section 157(1) and (2) of the Customs Act 1969.
