MULTAN: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation Multan Range Office has impounded a non-duty paid vehicle worth Rs 2 million during an action.
According to reports, Customs Intelligence and Investigation Assistant Director Furqan Mehmood received information about the smuggling of vehicles in and out of Multan. On the basis of information from an informer, the Customs Intelligence teams were deputed in various areas of Multan to intercept the smugglers and take action against them accordingly.
A Customs Intelligence team consisting of Superintendent Fareed ud Din Masood, Inspector Malik Muhammad Nasir, Inspector Amjad, Inspector Umer, Inspector Muhammad Mubeen, Zulfiqar and others was constituted for the purpose. The members of the Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) of the Customs Multan Range Office were busy in checking of vehicles passing on the route when they spotted a Toyota Hilux Surf car bearing registration number BF-258 / Sindh and signaled the driver to pull over. The customs officials found the documents of the vehicle to be incomplete, on which they impounded it.
Customs Intelligence team intercepted the foreign origin Toyota Hilux Surf vehicles near Sher Shah Bypass Multan on their suspicion. Customs teams asked the vehicle driver to produce import document to prove their legal possession.
During the examination of the vehicles and its documents, Customs Field Intelligence Unit (FIU) found its chassis as cut and weld.
The Customs Intelligence and Investigation team have impounded the vehicle under the Customs Act 1969. The Customs department will also conduct the chemical laboratory examination of the seized vehicle to prove the cut and weld of seized vehicle. Further investigation were still under process till the filing of this report.
