Collector Appraisement-West Dr Farid Qureshi orders smooth clearance of consignments

KARACHI: Collector Customs Appraisement-West Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi has ordered smooth clearance of consignments at the Karachi International Containers Terminal (KICT).

The Collector Appraisement-West has directed the collectorate to increase the number of CCTV cameras at the appraising hall and examination area, so that strict surveillance could be ensured during clearance of consignments.

He also asked the officials to maintain daily log of the clearance of imported consignments, adding that “zero percent” pendency should be ensured on daily basis at KICT. The step will not only provide relief to the importers but will ensure revenue generation.

The sources informed Customs Today that the Collector Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi would also evaluate the performance of Customs officials including appraisers and examiners adding that the Collector Appraisement West has decided to hold meeting of different groups on weekly basis in order to take the output of the Customs officials, who are working under their respective departments.

The Collector Appraisement said that every consignment would be evaluated on merit adding that strict action would be taken against those officials who found in mal-practicing and taking advantage of their powers.

The sources informed this scribe that the Collector Appraisement West Dr Farid Iqbal Qureshi has asked the Collectorate to leave no stone unturned in order to achieve the revenue targets and ensure complete filtration in this regard.
