JOHANNESBURG: South Africa’s trade balance swung to an unexpected surplus of 6.7 billion rand ($495 million) in September, from a revised 8.9 billion rand shortfall in August, data from the revenue agency showed on Monday.
Exports rose 10.1 percent on a month-on-month basis, while imports were down 6.6 percent, the South African Revenue Service said. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected a trade deficit of 1.1 billion rand for September.
