Multan Customs Intelligence impounds vehicles worth Rs 19m in October

MULTAN: The Customs Intelligence and Investigation impounded non-duty paid vehicles worth Rs 19.20 million involving duty/taxes amounting to Rs 12.2 million during October 2016.

The Multan Custom Intelligence carried out various anti-smuggling operations throughout October to curb smuggling. It impounded seven vehicles, including Toyota Hilux Surf, Toyota Fielder, Toyota Premio, Toyota X, Toyota Corolla, Hino Truck and others from Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Sadiqabad regions.

Sources told Customs Today that most of the vehicles were seized from Sadiqabad region where the Customs Intelligence registered four cases worth Rs 13.4 million in October. Similarly, the department is also taking stern action against smugglers in other areas where it busted various smuggling attempts.

The sources said that most of the cases, which were registered in October, have been forwarded to Customs Adjudication for their legal proceeding, adding that all anti-smuggling raids were conducted under the supervision of Assistant Collector Furqan Mehmood.

The assistant collector was taking stern action against the smuggling activities in the jurisdiction on the guidelines of Customs Intelligence director, they said, adding that the department was focusing on various routes of the jurisdiction which were used by smugglers for their smuggling activities.

Establishing new checkpoints in the jurisdiction by the department were also proved helpful, as movement of smuggled goods and vehicles is on decline through the region, they said, adding that all possible measures will be taken to weed out the smuggling that is creating problems for local traders, besides damaging national economy.
