MULTAN: The Customs Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) impounded vehicles and goods worth Rs 92.32 million during various operations in October.
According to details, the ASO has initiated extensive anti-smuggling campaign on the directions of Collector Sarfraz Ahmad Warraich in its jurisdiction, consisting of Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Sadiqabad regions. It detected 13 seizure cases during October.
The Multan ASO impounded nine different smuggled vehicles including Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Suzuki Sierra Jeep, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Fielder and others worth Rs 18 million. The vehicles were impounded after their owners failed to show documents regarding legal import of the items.
It also confiscated miscellaneous goods worth Rs 8 million during the said period in various anti-smuggling activities. It seized 14 kilogramme of gold and foreign currency at Multan International Airport. The officials arrested and registered cases against two smugglers in the case. The customs has forwarded several seizure cases to the Customs Adjudication after completion of interrogation for trial.
Officials said that Multan ASO has increased patrolling to restrict the movement of the smugglers and smuggling of goods, adding that the department was taking strict actions against the smuggling of goods and vehicles without any discrimination for the elimination of smuggling.
Meanwhile, Multan Customs Collector Sarfraz Ahmad Warraich has hailed the performance of anti-smuggling squad and directed them to take further necessary actions to curb menace of smuggling in the region. The collector has directed the customs staffs to remain vigilant over the movement of smuggled goods and non-customs paid vehicles in the region.
