Custom Court seeks charge sheet against suspects in diesel smuggling case

KARACHI: Custom Taxation and Anti-smuggling Court Judge Syed Faiz Rasool Rashdi has directed the investigation officer to submit charge sheet against 7 suspects who were arrested in a case of attempting to smuggle 26,500 litres of diesel through sea route.

During the hearing, the investigation officer appeared before the court and sought time to submit the charge sheet; therefore, the court granted him time and adjourned the hearing for November 12, 2016.

It needs to be mentioned here that on last hearing, the court had sent the accused persons namely as Muhammad Naeem, Ameer Shad, Muhammad Ghani, Zakir Hussain, Zahoor ul Haq, Shah Khalid and Muhammad Yousaf and Muhammad Anwar to the Central Jail Karachi on judicial remand.

According to the prosecution, on credible information, the Anti-Smuggling Organisation (ASO) intercepted a wooden boat when it came in Pakistani waters and during search found smuggled non-duty paid 26,500 litres of diesel from their possession worth approximately Rs 1.775 million.

After formalities, the custom authorities had arrested the accused persons and seized the said diesel and Al Nasiri boat. A case was registered by complainant Dil Waris khan, a senior preventive officer on the violation of Section 2 (s) read with Section 178 of Custom Act, 1969.
