Torkham Customs Station seizes smuggled fertilizer worth Rs6m

ISLAMABAD: Customs Station Torkham Khyber Agency anti smuggling squad seized smuggled fertilizer amounting to Rs.6 million.

According to details Torkham station that around 0700 PST, the staff of Pakistan Customs deputed at Pakistan-Afghanistan border stopped two trailers which were headed towards Afghanistan, both trucks were apparently loaded with the household goods of a repatriated Afghan family.

Sources said that after examination of the trucks customs staff recovered 80 metric tons of DAP fertilizer which was concealed beneath the household goods, the on duty staff asked the driver to provide relevant documents of loaded fertilizer but drivers of trucks failed to show any relevant document to Customs staff after that staff seized the consignment, the value of seized fertilizer was amounting Rs.6 million.

The sources said that customs staff seized the said smuggled goods lodged an FIR under Customs Act, 1969 against the tax evaders and further investigations are underway with I&P department of Customs Peshawar.

Sources said that during the months of July-August 2016-17 the Torkham collected Rs181 million under the head of sales tax while Rs213.92 million were collected during the same period of previous corresponding Fiscal Year15-16.

Sources said that Torkham station collected Rs.330.53 million under the head of advance income tax, while Rs.232.58 million were collected during the first two months of Fiscal Year 2015-16.

Sources said that the Torkham station has already achieved its financial revenue target during FY 2015-16 amounting Rs6888.670 million against the assigned  target of Rs4805.60 million.
