LAHORE: Directorate of Customs Intelligence and Investigation has seized vehicles and contraband goods worth Rs 33 million involving duty and taxes worth Rs 28,576,233 during the first four months of the financial year 2016-17.
As per details, the directorate seized seven non-duty paid vehicle worth Rs 8,200,000 involving duty and taxes of Rs 14,056,000 while 1,321 yard illegally imported cloth was also seized. The value of the cloth was determined at Rs 647,000 involving duty and taxes of Rs 298,275.
On the other hand the directorate seized 70 tyres and tubes worth Rs 3500,000 involving duty and taxes worth Rs 1,434,727 while the directorate seized auto parts worth Rs 1,171,200 involving Rs 841013 duty and taxes. The directorate seized Rs 28800 mobil oil involving Rs 166,711 duty and taxes.
Similarly, the directorate impounded Rs 16,229,030 miscellaneous goods and articles that involved Rs 7,011,109 duty and taxes. Over the entire directorate seized Rs 33 million contraband goods and vehicle involving Rs 28,576,233 million duty and taxes.
Sources told Customs Today that newly posted Director Customs Intelligence Zeba Hai Azhar has issued strict instructions for the officials serving the anti-smuggling unit and car cell to increase number of crackdowns on the elements involved in car and other goods and items smuggling. After receiving these instructions customs teams already expedited their efforts to curb smuggling in the region.
