Customs collects Rs 340,992 customs duty from Sialkot airport

SIALKOT: The Model Customs Collectorate (MCC) Sialkot collected the Rs 340,992 in the wake of customs from Sialkot International Airport Limited on the export of LCL consignment during first four months of current fiscal year 2016-17.

The Sialkot Customs collected Rs 120,000 under the head of sales tax and Rs 90,000 in the wake of income tax during the said period. The sports goods, surgical instruments, musical instruments, leather garments, gloves and other items exported through Sialkot airport.

Sources told that the customs staff is performing duty at the airport whereas need of staff for Air Freight Unit (AFU) is urgently required to facilitate the import and export by air. They informed that office of has been set up at the airport but no steps have been taken so far for the appointment of staff.

The sources said that the customs officials were performing duty at the airport and the staff dealt with all matters, adding that the officials were working with limited resources and staff. The customs staff checked luggage of passengers and cargo consignment carefully in order to avoid tax evasion and smuggling, they said, adding that officials of other department working at the airport never interfere in the checking process of the customs department.

The officials told that the money laundering and smuggling of other items has been decreased from the airport because the staff is always alert and performing duty honestly to strengthen the economy of country.
